How it works

Specific enough for the campaign in your head.

Build simple groups in a few clicks or nest conditions for a precise audience. Counts update before you save, so there are no surprises at send time.

01

Mix behavior and profile data

Segment on opens, clicks, signup date, status, list membership, location and custom fields.

02

Use AND and OR groups

Combine rules and nested groups to express the exact audience without exporting a spreadsheet.

03

See the people behind the count

Preview matching contacts, inspect the result and understand why each person belongs before using it.

04

Keep it current

Dynamic segments update as customers open, buy, join a list or change a field. Build the rule once.

05

Start in plain language

Describe the audience to Theta AI, review the proposed conditions and only save when they match your intent.

06

Use it across the platform

Choose the same segment in campaigns and automations, with no duplicate list to maintain.

Available criteria

Build from information the platform can actually verify.

The rule picker is organized around contact data, engagement, message activity, location and list membership. Purchase rules are not presented until purchase data is supported by the segment engine.

01

Contact profile

Match email, name, phone, subscription status, subscribed date, birthday, company, job title and imported custom fields.

02

Email opens

Target any email, a campaign or an automation by recent activity, a date boundary, ever opened or never opened.

03

Link clicks

Match when a click happened or inspect the destination itself with exact, contains and excludes rules.

04

Counts and device

Compare total unique opens or clicks and distinguish device behavior recorded from tracked clicks.

05

Location

Use a profile country or city, or separately use country inferred from click activity. The interface keeps those sources distinct.

06

List membership

Include or exclude people based on whether they belong to another list.

07

Engagement traits

Use engagement score, preferred device and best send hour when computed engagement traits are enabled.

Add-on data

Rule logic

Express the audience without hiding the reasoning.

A segment is a visible set of rules. The builder keeps field, operator and value separate so another person can understand why somebody matches.

01

AND within a group

Require every rule in the group, such as active status and a click in the last 30 days.

02

OR when either path is valid

Use OR for alternatives, such as a recent campaign open or a recent automation open.

03

Nested groups

Combine groups to represent a more precise audience without creating intermediate lists.

04

Time-aware operators

Use in the last, not in the last, before and after instead of manually updating calendar dates.

05

Presence checks

Ask whether information exists, does not exist, happened ever or never happened.

06

Member inspection

After saving, search and page through the contacts currently matching the rules.

Sync and safeguards

Separate audience definition from contact changes.

By default, the segment describes who matches. Optional sync actions can change contact state, so those controls are explicit and destructive actions cannot run unattended.

01

Count only

Refresh membership without changing a contact, list or subscription state.

02

Controlled status actions

Optionally block, unblock or unsubscribe matching contacts when that is the intended operational workflow.

03

Consent protection

Unblock and subscribe actions do not revive contacts who unsubscribed themselves or bounced. They must opt in again.

04

Scheduled sync

Non-destructive actions can run once a day at a selected local time, stored consistently as UTC.

05

Manual destructive actions

Removing contacts from lists or deleting contacts requires confirmation and cannot be scheduled.

06

Plain-language draft

The Theta AI segment assistant can translate supported audience language into visible rules for review.

AI add-on

Practical starting points

Begin with a job, not an empty canvas.

Purchase amount, purchase count and last-purchase rules are not claimed here because the current segment engine does not expose them. Engagement traits and the conversational assistant depend on the relevant add-on being enabled.

01

Recent clickers

Follow up with people who showed stronger intent than an open alone.

  1. Choose Link clicked
  2. Set in the last 14 days
  3. Optionally limit the destination URL
  4. Exclude a customer list if needed
02

Quiet subscribers

Create a reviewable audience before deciding on a re-engagement campaign.

  1. Require active subscription status
  2. Set Email opened to not in the last 60 days
  3. Inspect the matching members
  4. Use the saved segment in an automation
03

Upcoming birthdays

Maintain a recurring audience without changing the date each year.

  1. Choose Birthday
  2. Set in the next number of days
  3. Limit to the appropriate source lists
  4. Use the segment as an automation entry
